Emergency Orthodontist Care

Maarten Broess DDS, DMSc, DMD, PC | Invisalign reg , Generic Clear Braces and Two-Phase Treatment

Most orthodontic emergencies can simply be treated by yourself. However, we want you to call us if you experience severe pain, swelling or have a poking wire or braces that you cannot temporarily treat yourself. We are available 24/7 to help you and address any discomfort you experience with your braces. Please do not hesitate to call our office.

Most problems with a loose wire or brace can temporarily be treated by yourself. If anything is poking from your braces you can put some soft wax on the piece that is sticking out.

After alleviating your discomfort, we want you to call our office during office hours to schedule a checkup to make sure your appliances are not damaged. Broken braces or wires can affect your treatment and time in the braces. Get quality emergency orthodontist care in Rhode Island today!

General Soreness

+

The first time you get your braces or clear aligners it is common to feel soreness. Your teeth and gums might be tender when you eat. This soreness can last for three to five days. Also, the braces or aligners might rub against your cheek and tongue. While your teeth are sore stick to soft food and use wax on part of the braces that are causing any irritation of your cheeks or tongue. At the appointment when you get your braces or clear aligners, we show you how to use the wax.

If the pain is severe you can take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or whatever you normally take for pain

Head Gear

+

When you get your headgear, your molars can be sore for the first couple of days. This soreness will go away and taking Tylenol to control the level of discomfort is sometimes needed.

If you don’t wear your headgear the recommended number of hours this soreness can linger on. The more you wear your headgear the quicker the soreness goes away.

If you cannot wear your headgear because it does not fit call our office so we can make it fit again.

ALERT: If the end of the headgear pokes you in the eye you will have to see an eye doctor ASAP to prevent serious eye infections.

Loose Band (Braces)

+

If the metal band around the molar is loose, we recommend leaving it on the tooth and put some wax around it. Please call our office during regular hours so we can schedule you to be seen sooner.

Loose Bracket (Braces)

+

If a bracket is loose, please leave it on the wire and if necessary, put some wax around it to stabilize it. Please call our office during regular hours so we can schedule you to be seen sooner.

Poking Wire (Braces)

+

Use the end of a pencil eraser to push the poking wire down or place wax. Please call our office during regular hours so we can schedule you to be seen sooner.

Lost Retainer (Braces)

+

If you lose your retainer, you should call our office at the next regular office hour so we can schedule an appointment to make you a new retainer. Going for more than a week without a retainer can cause significant relapse of your teeth.

Lost Invisalign Aligner (Invisalign)

+

If you lose or break your aligner go to the next aligner. Or, if you do not have another aligner you can go back to a previous aligner. If this happens, we do recommend you visit our office for a new aligner.
